About
Meet Your Physiotherapist
Balasubramanian Sankaran — Bala — founder of The Joint Mech Physiotherapy Clinic, Rugby, Warwickshire.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, I've dedicated my career to helping people move better, recover from injury, manage pain and get back to doing the things they love. Throughout my journey as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, I've been fortunate to work across India, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, gaining valuable experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, private practice and the NHS.
Working with people from different cultures and backgrounds has helped me develop a holistic approach to physiotherapy, where every patient is treated as an individual, not just a diagnosis.
Qualifications & Experience
I hold a Master's Degree in Orthopaedic (Musculoskeletal) Physiotherapy and am a HCPC Registered Physiotherapist and proud member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). I successfully completed the First Contact Practitioner Clinical Practice programme at Coventry University in May 2025, further enhancing my advanced assessment, clinical reasoning and independent decision-making skills.
Today, I work as a First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) within both the NHS and private practice. In this role, I independently assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, often helping patients access expert physiotherapy without needing to see a GP first.

My Approach to Care
One of the biggest lessons I've learned throughout my career is that no two patients are ever the same. Even when two people have the same condition, their symptoms, lifestyle, goals and recovery journey can be completely different. That's why I don't believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all treatment plans.
At The Joint Mech Physiotherapy Clinic, I take the time to listen to your concerns, understand how your pain affects your daily life and identify the root cause of your problem. Together, we'll create a personalised treatment plan that's designed around your goals — whether that's returning to work, getting back to sport, keeping up with your children or grandchildren, or simply moving comfortably again.
My Treatment Philosophy
My treatment philosophy combines expert clinical assessment, hands-on treatment and evidence-based rehabilitation. Depending on your condition, your treatment may include:
- Manual Therapy
- Joint and Spinal Mobilisation
- Trigger Point Release
- Personalised Exercise Rehabilitation
- Core Strengthening
- Postural Correction
- Pain Management
- Sports Injury Rehabilitation
I also believe that education is one of the most important parts of recovery. My aim isn't just to relieve pain — it's to help you regain confidence in your movement and stay active for the long term.
Advanced Training & CPD
Throughout my career, I've invested heavily in advanced training and continuing professional development. I've completed specialist certifications in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, Dry Needling, Fascial Manipulation (Stecco Method), Mulligan Concepts, Pelvic Girdle Mobilisation and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM).
You can see a full timeline of my training and certifications on the Professional Credentials page.
Above all, I believe physiotherapy is about building relationships based on trust, honesty and compassion. Whether you're experiencing a recent injury, persistent pain or recovering after surgery, I'll work alongside you every step of the way. I look forward to welcoming you to The Joint Mech Physiotherapy Clinic in Rugby, Warwickshire, where together we'll help you move better, feel stronger and get back to living life without pain.
